Amazingly, this will already be my 200th post here (since the site was launched, how time flies so quickly) and it’s only fitting we’re getting to the results of the biggest show of the WWE calendar
So the greatest pay per view of the year has come to a close and to be frank, there were some unexpected moments it has to be said, while the card started to look dire when some of the matches were announced, changes were made to some matches that lifted the spirits of the fans in the arena and at home…so let’s get to it
Roman Reigns def. The Undertaker Prediction results +1
Now while I would always rout for the dead man, my pick of Reigns winning this was spot on, I know I have covered this in past blogs but the Undertaker has always hinted at retirement and if his actions of leaving his gloves, hat and coat in the ring at the end is in anyway symbolic, it was great to see the Undertaker headline one more WrestleMania even if it meant going out on a loss.
But I would be amiss if I didn’t speak about the WWE changing the match on us, this was not advertised as a “No Holds Barred” match and while I don’t mind it being this type of match, I feel it’s kind of cheap of the powers that be to do this
Universal Championship Match Brock Lesnar def. Goldberg (c) Prediction results +1
Well holy shit, I damn near fucking fainted when this match even got past the two-minute mark, I had nothing invested in these two superstars and personally think that they are two worst on the current roaster
I’m surprised these two agreed to take so many moves from the other to actually make a match let alone try to make not such a fuck fest like their previous encounters, so while I can say I won my prediction in this match, I don’t really care for the winner nor his sorry excuse for a wrestling partner so moving on…
WWE Championship Match Randy Orton def. Bray Wyatt (c) Prediction results +1
While I win my prediction, I was sorry to see Wyatt lose the belt, this could have been the feud of 2017 and maybe it still will be but Bray should have retained
SmackDown Women’s Championship Match Naomi def. Alexa Bliss (c), Natalya, Carmella, Mickie James and Becky Lynch Prediction results +1
Shock of all shocks, a returning Naomi comes back and wins the championship, anyone else call a fast one, I know I did hence another prediction win, I would call this lazy writing from the WWE but returns are always a nice surprise.
Now considering another match, I will be getting to, I feel I need to clarify why I win this prediction, while I may not have picked an outright winner, my prediction was that we would see a new champion crowned and there was hence the +1
Raw Tag Team Championship Triple Threat Ladder MatchThe Hardy Boyz def. Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson (c), Cesaro & Sheamus and Enzo Amore & Big Cass MATCH CHANGED NO SCORE
And speaking about that aforementioned match, this be the one, now, while I loved seeing the return of “Team Extreme”, not only was this match made a four way but a ladder match to boot.
I can claim no score for this prediction as I predicted on a triple threat match, had the WWE announced the return of the Hardy Boyz, you can bet every nickel and dime you have that they would have been my pick.
Non-Sanctioned Match Seth Rollins def. Triple H Prediction results +1
Despite the match been made so late on the road to WrestleMania solely due to whether or not Dean Ambrose could get medically cleared, the match got the go ahead and is heavily rumoured to be Triple H’s last. still win my prediction though
Mixed Tag Team Match John Cena & Nikki Bella def. The Miz & Maryse Prediction results +1
AWWWW, their getting married, did you cry? No…me neither, good god people, how did people not this coming but despite my prediction win, I didn’t agree with it – let me explain, John Cena is going to be missing most of 2017 with movie commitments, meaning he didn’t need the push from a win, the Miz, however is sticking around and could have used the momentum, Cena and Bella could still have had their moment but could have had it even on a loss.
Raw Women’s Championship Fatal 4-Way Elimination Match Bayley (c) def. Charlotte Flair vs. Sasha Banks vs. Nia Jax Prediction results +1
The huggable one retains – all is right with the world, no seriously despite Bayley been a personal favourite of me and the huggable section of any crowd, jam packing the arenas WWE visit, this does mean I up my prediction tally by another notch.
This was set to be a three way with the champ, Flair and Banks but at the last minute Jax as added, didn’t change the outcome though.
United States Championship Match Kevin Owens def. Chris Jericho (c) Prediction results +1
Kevin Owens made good on his vow to repay Jericho for costing him the Universal Championship a month earlier at WWE Fastlane, capturing his first U.S championship and I capture another point.
AJ Styles def. Shane McMahon Prediction results -1
WWE says that though AJ Styles walked away victorious at The Ultimate Thrill Ride, Shane McMahon once again cemented his reputation as WWE’s Man Without Fear, I say squash match anyone?
Sure there was back and forth action, momentum swinging like the preverbal brick but regrettably Shane McMahon on the “orders to make Styles look good” fell to the Style’s Clash – do not agree with this one at all despite a prediction loss.
Mojo Rawley won The Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal Prediction results -1
What’s that I smell…yep…bullshit, I know the WWE likes to think they’re the greatest thing since sliced bread but their decisions can still suck, I know if there’s a celebrity at ringside the WWE think they can involve in a match, you bet your ass their going to do it.
This match was a let-down and that is in no small part thanks to the NFL, Rawley could have won this on his own
Intercontinental Championship Match Dean Ambrose (c) def. Baron Corbin Prediction results -1
Now despite the loss of the prediction, I have never agreed with the decision to hold a championship match on the damn kick-off show, it under values the gold, the superstars and should be reserved for the main show. That being said and as much as I am a fan of Dean Ambrose, the lone wolf should have won.
WWE Cruiserweight Championship Match Neville (c) def. Austin Aries Prediction results -1
Another belt that should have been on the main show not the kick-off, and Aries should have won it despite my prediction loss, while Neville is great and all, if you got Austin freaking Aries in the match, at freaking WrestleMania – I mean come on…so disappointed
So ends another year of wrestling, remember it’s not January to December, its April to April and with a tally of eight correct, four losses and one unforeseen match change, I have won my prediction for WrestleMania 2017.
And the next on the cards is Raw’s WWE Payback on April 30th, I will see you all there
