Styles to battle Owens or Jericho for the United States Championship

At WWE Backlash on May 21, AJ Styles will challenge the United States Champion. However, whether Kevin Owens or Chris Jericho will be the titleholder at SmackDown LIVE’s first pay-per-view since WrestleMania remains to be seen.

The Phenomenal One secured his United States Title opportunity by overcoming Baron Corbin and Sami Zayn in an explosive Triple Threat Match on the April 11 edition of SmackDown LIVE, showing once again exactly why he arguably built SmackDown LIVE into the powerhouse brand it has become over the past year.

But that establishment is now being threatened by an all-out invasion. Thanks to the Superstar Shake-up, Owens – and Jericho if he wins at WWE Payback – are looming over the blue brand. Moreover, both outspoken competitors have voiced their plan to reign over Team Blue with the United States Championship around their waist.

Whether “The New Face of America” or The Ayatollah of Rock ‘n’ Rolla wins this Sunday, the United States Champion will walk back onto SmackDown LIVE knowing full well that their prize is in immediate danger. As one of the best Superstars in the squared circle today, Styles is no doubt ready to match the tremendous technique of either competitor in order to add the United States Title to his incredible list of accolades.

While this match is half filled I will make my prediction after WWE Payback when the United States Championship match has been decided.
